Sherlock Holmes

Sherlock Holmes is a fictional consulting detective created by Arthur Conan Doyle. His cases are narrated chiefly by Dr. John Watson and feature close observation and inference.

The Hound of the Baskervilles: A novel in which Holmes investigates a death linked to a family legend on Dartmoor. Its eerie setting and apparent supernatural threat test Holmes’s reliance on evidence.
Dr. John Watson: A physician and former army surgeon who narrates most Sherlock Holmes stories. Watson’s narration frames Holmes’s reasoning and makes his deductions visible through contrast.
Arthur Conan Doyle: A Scottish writer and physician best known for creating Sherlock Holmes. Doyle invented Holmes and wrote the stories that established the detective’s traits.

C. Auguste Dupin: A fictional Parisian detective created by Edgar Allan Poe, featured in three short stories. Dupin preceded Holmes and helped establish the literary model of the brilliant analytical detective.
Sherlock Holmes fandom: A community of readers and enthusiasts devoted to Sherlock Holmes and related works. Holmes’s popularity produced organized societies, scholarship, and traditions of treating the stories as history.
