Shinbutsu-shūgō

Shinbutsu-shūgō is the historical blending of kami worship and Buddhism in Japan, incorporating deities, institutions, and practices from both traditions into shared religious life.

H本地垂迹: A medieval Japanese theory that kami were local manifestations of buddhas and bodhisattvas. It gave theological form to the idea that kami and Buddhist figures could be the same beings.
