Knowra Shitao Shitao Shitao (1642–1707) was a Chinese painter, calligrapher, and Buddhist monk of the early Qing dynasty. His expressive landscapes and writings, especially the treatise often called 苦瓜和尚画语录 , challenged rigid painting conventions.
