Shrimpfish

Shrimpfish are small, laterally compressed Indo-Pacific fishes that swim head-down among seagrass or branching corals. Their narrow bodies and vertical posture help them blend into these habitats.

Vertical fish posture: A swimming orientation in which a fish holds its body upright or head-down rather than horizontally. Shrimpfish maintain a head-down posture while moving through vegetation and coral branches.
Centriscidae: A family of marine fishes that includes shrimpfish and related razorfishes. Shrimpfish belong to this family of slender, strongly compressed fishes.
Indo-Pacific: The broad marine region spanning the tropical and subtropical Indian and western Pacific oceans. Shrimpfish occur across this region’s reefs and coastal vegetation.
