Knowra SI derived unit SI derived unit An SI unit formed by multiplying, dividing, or raising SI base units to powers. Some derived units have special names and symbols, such as the newton and pascal.
SI base unit : One of the seven fundamental units of the International System of Units, defined independently of other units. Every SI derived unit reduces to powers and products of these seven units.
Newton : The SI derived unit of force, equal to one kilogram metre per second squared. It combines mass, length, and time units through Newton's second law.
Becquerel : The SI derived unit of radioactive activity, equal to one nuclear decay per second. It measures decay rate using the reciprocal of the second.
Non-SI units accepted for use with the SI : Units outside the SI that are accepted for use alongside it, including the minute and litre. They are usable with SI but are not SI derived units.
SI prefixes : Symbols and names that denote decimal multiples or submultiples of SI units. Prefixes scale derived units such as kilopascal without changing their underlying dimensions.
Joule : The SI derived unit of energy, equal to one newton metre. Its base-unit form follows from force multiplied by displacement.
Gray : The SI derived unit of absorbed dose, equal to one joule per kilogram. It expresses energy deposited per unit mass.
CGS system of units : A metric system whose base units are the centimetre, gram, and second. It forms derived units from a different set of base units.
Physical dimension : The physical kind of a quantity, expressed through powers of fundamental dimensions such as length and time. Dimensions reveal which base-unit powers a derived unit represents.
Pascal : The SI derived unit of pressure, equal to one newton per square metre. It expresses force divided by area in base units.
