Siberian exile

Siberian exile was the punishment of forcibly relocating people to Siberia, where they were confined, monitored, or compelled to settle. Russian imperial and Soviet authorities used it against criminals, political opponents, and other targeted groups.

Katorga: A Russian system of penal servitude involving forced labor, often in remote regions. Its labor camps and mines were among the harshest destinations imposed on exiles.
Siberian conquest: The Russian expansion across Siberia beginning in the late sixteenth century. Conquest brought Siberia under the authority that later used it as a place of banishment.
