Siberian Federal District

A federal district of Russia covering much of central and eastern Siberia. It is an administrative grouping of federal subjects, not a constituent region or level of government.

Federal subjects of Russia: The constituent territorial units of the Russian Federation, including republics, oblasts, and krais. The district groups federal subjects rather than replacing their constitutional status.
Presidential plenipotentiary representative: A representative appointed by Russia’s president to oversee implementation of federal policy within a federal district. This official heads the district’s federal coordination structure.
Federal districts of Russia: Administrative groupings of Russia’s federal subjects, established to coordinate federal oversight. The Siberian district originated as part of the federal-district system introduced in 2000.
Novosibirsk: The largest city in Siberia and the administrative center of Novosibirsk Oblast. It is also the administrative center of the Siberian Federal District.
Novosibirsk Oblast: A federal subject of Russia in southwestern Siberia, with Novosibirsk as its administrative center. It is one of the district’s constituent regions and hosts its headquarters.
Presidential Administration of Russia: A state body that supports the president of Russia in exercising constitutional powers. Federal district representatives operate within the president’s system of territorial oversight.
Vladimir Putin: A Russian politician who served as president and prime minister of Russia. Putin established the federal districts by presidential decree in May 2000.
Siberia: A vast geographic region of northern Asia extending across much of Russia east of the Urals. The district takes its name from this region but does not encompass all of Siberia.
Krasnoyarsk Krai: A vast Russian federal subject extending across central Siberia from the Arctic coast southward. Its great north–south span illustrates the district’s immense scale.
Federal executive authorities of Russia: The ministries and agencies that carry out federal laws and policies across Russia. District-level coordination connects these authorities with regional administrations.
