Siege of Acre (1189–1191)

A prolonged siege during the Third Crusade in which crusader forces captured Acre from Saladin’s army in 1191. Its outcome secured a major coastal base for the campaign in the Levant.

Acre: A historic port city on the eastern Mediterranean coast, now in northern Israel. The city’s walls and harbor shaped the siege’s military and logistical stakes.
Battle of Hattin: A decisive 1187 battle in which Saladin defeated the Kingdom of Jerusalem’s army. Hattin’s aftermath left Acre under Muslim control and prompted crusader efforts to recover it.
Richard I of England: King of England from 1189 to 1199 and a leading commander of the Third Crusade. Richard arrived in 1191 and helped lead the final assault and negotiations.
