Siege of Leningrad

The German-led siege of Leningrad lasted from 1941 to 1944, isolating the Soviet city and causing mass death through famine and bombardment before Soviet forces broke the blockade.

Road of Life: The Soviet supply route across Lake Ladoga that linked besieged Leningrad with the rest of the Soviet Union. Its ice road and summer shipping carried food into the isolated city.
