Silla

Silla was an ancient Korean kingdom that emerged in the southeast of the peninsula and, after unifying much of Korea in the seventh century, endured until 935.

Samhan: Samhan was a confederation of early polities in southern Korea during the first centuries BCE and CE. Silla emerged near the region associated with Jinhan, one of the Samhan confederations.
Silla–Tang alliance: The Silla–Tang alliance was a military partnership between Silla and China’s Tang dynasty against Baekje and Goguryeo. Tang forces helped Silla defeat its rivals, though the partnership later broke down.
King Jinheung of Silla: King Jinheung was a sixth-century Silla ruler who expanded the kingdom’s territory and strengthened its institutions. His campaigns made Silla a major power before the unification wars.
Bulguksa: Bulguksa is a Buddhist temple complex built in the Silla kingdom and now located near Gyeongju, South Korea. Its surviving structures embody Silla’s Buddhist patronage and architectural skill.
Unification of the Three Kingdoms of Korea: The unification of the Three Kingdoms was the seventh-century process through which Silla conquered Baekje and Goguryeo with Tang assistance. It established Silla’s rule over much of the peninsula and began Unified Silla.
Jinhan: Jinhan was a confederation of chiefdoms in southeastern Korea during the early centuries CE. Silla developed within the territory traditionally associated with this confederation.
Battle of Hwangsanbeol: The Battle of Hwangsanbeol was a 660 battle in which Silla forces defeated Baekje’s army. The victory opened the way for the Tang–Silla conquest of Baekje.
Queen Seondeok of Silla: Queen Seondeok was Silla’s first reigning queen, ruling from 632 to 647. Her reign came amid political strain and growing conflict with neighboring kingdoms.
Seokguram: Seokguram is an eighth-century Buddhist grotto shrine near Gyeongju, featuring a monumental stone Buddha. The shrine shows the refinement of Unified Silla sculpture and religious design.
Later Three Kingdoms of Korea: The Later Three Kingdoms were Silla, Later Baekje, and Taebong, rival states that divided Korea in the late ninth and early tenth centuries. Their emergence exposed the weakening of Silla’s central authority.
