Knowra Sima Xiangru Sima Xiangru Sima Xiangru (c. 179–117 BCE) was a Western Han poet and court official. His ornate fu, especially the “Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park,” helped define the grand literary style associated with Han court culture.
Fu (prose poetry) : A Chinese literary form combining features of poetry and prose, often marked by description, parallelism, and catalogues. This is the genre in which Sima Xiangru became a leading Han writer.
Rhapsody on the Shanglin Park : A Han fu attributed to Sima Xiangru that depicts the imperial hunting park and its abundance in elaborate detail. This is his most celebrated work and a defining example of courtly fu.
Emperor Wu of Han : The seventh emperor of the Han dynasty, whose reign from 141 to 87 BCE expanded imperial power and patronage. Sima Xiangru’s court career unfolded under the emperor’s rule and literary patronage.
