Siméon Denis Poisson

Siméon Denis Poisson (1781–1840) was a French mathematician and physicist whose work shaped probability theory, mechanics, and mathematical physics.

Poisson distribution: A discrete probability distribution for counts of events occurring independently at a constant average rate. This distribution bears Poisson’s name and formalizes rare-event counts.
