Simon the Zealot

Simon the Zealot is one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, distinguished in New Testament lists by the epithet “the Zealot.” The Gospels provide little information about his life.

Twelve Apostles: The twelve disciples whom Jesus appointed as apostles in the New Testament. Simon is named among this group in the Gospel lists.
Simon Peter: A leading apostle of Jesus, also known as Peter and Cephas. He shares Simon’s name but is a distinct, far better-documented apostle.
Zealots: A Jewish political movement associated with resistance to Roman rule in first-century Judea. The shared name raises the question of whether Simon belonged to this movement.
