Simvastatin

Simvastatin is a statin medication that lowers blood cholesterol by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol synthesis.

HMG-CoA reductase: An enzyme that catalyzes the rate-limiting step in the mevalonate pathway of cholesterol synthesis. Simvastatin inhibits this enzyme, reducing the liver’s production of cholesterol.
