Sin-Itiro Tomonaga

Sin-Itiro Tomonaga was a Japanese theoretical physicist who developed a covariant formulation of quantum electrodynamics and shared the 1965 Nobel Prize in Physics.

Quantum electrodynamics: The quantum field theory describing interactions between electrically charged particles and electromagnetic radiation. Tomonaga’s central contribution was a covariant formulation of this theory.
Tomonaga–Schwinger equation: A relativistic equation describing changes in a quantum state as a spacelike hypersurface is deformed. It expresses Tomonaga’s covariant approach to quantum evolution.
