Sino-Indian War

The Sino-Indian War was a brief border war fought between China and India in October and November 1962. China declared a ceasefire and withdrew from much of the territory it had captured.

McMahon Line: A boundary proposed in 1914 between Tibet and British India, now disputed by China and India. The line defined the frontier in the eastern sector where Chinese forces advanced in 1962.
Simla Convention: A 1914 agreement concerning Tibet’s status and the boundary between Tibet and British India. Its disputed boundary arrangements underlie the eastern-sector disagreement.

Forward Policy: India’s 1961–62 policy of establishing small military posts in disputed Himalayan territory. Its posts brought Indian troops into contested areas where Chinese forces later attacked.
Sino-Indian border dispute: A continuing territorial dispute between China and India along their Himalayan frontier. The war was the dispute’s first major armed conflict and did not resolve its claims.
