Sinuiju

Sinuiju is a city in northwestern North Korea on the Yalu River, opposite Dandong, China. It is a major border crossing and transport hub between the two countries.

Sino-Korean Friendship Bridge: A road-and-rail bridge across the Yalu River connecting Dandong, China, with Sinuiju, North Korea. This bridge is the main fixed crossing linking the city to Dandong.
Yalu River: A river forming much of the border between northeastern China and northwestern North Korea. The river defines Sinuiju’s boundary with China and gives the city its port access.
Japanese rule in Korea: The period from 1910 to 1945 when Korea was annexed and governed by Japan. Japanese-era development expanded Sinuiju as a railway and administrative center.

Sinuiju Special Administrative Region: A North Korean project announced in 2002 to establish a special administrative region centered on Sinuiju. The plan sought to make the border city a distinct center for foreign investment.
Korea Bay: A bay of the Yellow Sea between the Liaodong Peninsula and the west coast of North Korea. The bay lies downstream from Sinuiju and connects the area to coastal waters.
