Sirenomelia

Sirenomelia is a rare congenital condition in which the legs are fused to varying degrees, often alongside severe abnormalities of the kidneys, urinary tract, and lower digestive system.

Caudal dysgenesis: A spectrum of congenital disorders involving abnormal development of the lower spine, pelvis, and associated organs. Sirenomelia is a severe form of abnormal caudal development.
Sirenomelia classification: A scheme for describing sirenomelia by the number and arrangement of lower-limb bones. The fusion spectrum is commonly distinguished by the skeletal structures present.
Sirenomelia in Greek mythology: The mythological sirens were beings associated with the sea, whose forms varied across ancient traditions. The condition’s name evokes the fused tail-like appearance associated with sirens.
Prenatal ultrasound: Medical imaging that uses sound waves to assess fetal development during pregnancy. It can reveal limb fusion and major associated abnormalities before birth.
