Sloth

Sloth is a vice marked by neglect of effort, duty, or spiritual responsibilities. In Christian moral theology, it is traditionally counted among the seven deadly sins.

Moral responsibility: The status of being answerable for actions or omissions under relevant moral standards. Calling neglect sloth presumes some responsibility for the neglected duty.
Depression: A mental health condition involving persistent low mood or loss of interest, among other symptoms. Depression can impair effort without constituting a chosen vice.
Diligence: Steady, conscientious effort directed toward duties or worthwhile aims. Diligence names the virtue that most directly counters neglected duties.
Gregory the Great: A sixth-century pope and theologian whose writings shaped medieval Christian teaching. His moral taxonomy helped establish the later grouping of capital vices.
