Sneferu

Sneferu was an ancient Egyptian king who founded the Fourth Dynasty and built the Bent Pyramid and Red Pyramid. His reign saw major advances in pyramid construction.

Bent Pyramid: A pyramid at Dahshur whose upper sides have a shallower slope than its lower sides. Its change in angle records a construction redesign during Sneferu’s reign.
Egyptian pyramid construction techniques: The methods used to quarry, transport, position, and assemble materials for ancient Egyptian pyramids. Sneferu’s building projects provide evidence for these evolving methods.

Step pyramid: A pyramid formed from successively smaller mastaba-like levels rather than smooth sloping faces. Meidum’s stepped core preserves an earlier form that builders transformed into a smooth-sided pyramid.
Huni: An ancient Egyptian king generally placed at the end of the Third Dynasty. Huni is commonly treated as Sneferu’s predecessor, though their relationship is uncertain.
Pyramid of Menkaure: The smallest of the three main pyramids at Giza, built for the Fourth Dynasty king Menkaure. It shows the continuation of Fourth Dynasty royal pyramid building after Sneferu.
Meidum Pyramid: A pyramid in Egypt whose ruined outer casing exposes a stepped core. Its construction history is associated with Sneferu’s pyramid-building program.
Pyramidion: The small capstone placed at the apex of an Egyptian pyramid or obelisk. The completed pyramids of Sneferu’s reign required a finished apex as well as stable slopes.
