Social conservatism

Social conservatism is a political outlook that favors preserving or restoring traditional social norms, institutions, and moral values. Its positions vary across societies and historical periods.

Tradition: Ideas, practices, and institutions transmitted across generations and treated as valuable through continuity. Social conservatives often regard inherited practices as sources of social order and shared identity.
Social liberalism: A political outlook favoring individual autonomy and equal rights in social and cultural life. It commonly supports changes to norms that social conservatives seek to retain.
Abortion politics: Political conflict over the legality, availability, and regulation of abortion. Many social conservatives ground restrictive abortion policies in beliefs about fetal moral status.
