Knowra Social interaction Social interaction Social interaction consists of reciprocal actions through which people communicate and respond to one another. It can occur face to face or through mediated communication.
Social action : Action oriented toward other people and shaped by their actual or anticipated responses. It describes how an individual act becomes socially oriented within an interaction.
Social relationship : A connection between people formed and maintained through interaction and shared social expectations. Repeated interactions can establish, sustain, or alter relationships.
Conversation : An interactive exchange of spoken or signed contributions between participants. Conversation is a familiar form of interaction organized around reciprocal contributions.
Social structure : The patterned relationships and institutions that organize social life. Structure constrains interaction, while interaction can reproduce or change it.
Symbolic interactionism : A sociological perspective explaining social life through meanings created and revised in interaction. It explains how participants interpret gestures and negotiate shared meanings.
Social role : A set of expected behaviors associated with a particular social position. Roles guide how people act toward one another in recurring situations.
Interpersonal communication : The exchange of messages between people, including verbal and nonverbal communication. This field examines how people coordinate meaning in direct exchanges.
Social influence : The ways a person's thoughts, feelings, or behavior are affected by others. Influence can result from interaction but does not require equal reciprocity.
Nonverbal communication : Communication through signals other than words, including gesture, facial expression, posture, and vocal qualities. These signals shape how spoken words and responses are understood.
Social norm : A shared expectation about appropriate conduct within a group or society. Norms shape which responses count as appropriate in a given encounter.
