Somali Civil War

An ongoing conflict in Somalia that began with insurgency against Siad Barre’s regime and has involved successive governments, clan-based factions, Islamist groups, and foreign forces.

Siad Barre: Somalia’s president from 1969 until his government fell in 1991. His authoritarian rule and defeat by insurgents marked the war’s beginning.
