Songwriter

A songwriter creates lyrics, melodies, or both for songs. Songwriters may perform their own work or write for other performers.

Lyric: The words of a song, usually organized into lines and sections for singing. Lyrics supply the verbal content a songwriter may create or shape.
Singer-songwriter: A musician who writes and performs songs, often presenting them as personal expression. This role combines songwriting with performance by the same person.
Irving Berlin: An American songwriter known for songs including “Alexander's Ragtime Band” and “White Christmas.” Berlin became one of Tin Pan Alley's most successful writers of popular songs.
