Sonia Delaunay

Sonia Delaunay (1885–1979) was a Ukrainian-born French artist and designer who developed Orphism with Robert Delaunay and brought its color rhythms into painting, textiles, fashion, and book design.

Orphism: An early twentieth-century art movement that used abstract forms and contrasting colors to suggest movement and musical rhythm. Delaunay helped establish this approach, making it the clearest framework for her art.
Color theory: The study of how colors are perceived, combined, and used in visual design. Delaunay treated color relationships as a structural force rather than decoration.
Simultané dress: A patchwork dress made by Sonia Delaunay around 1913 from contrasting fabric shapes. It shows how she carried simultaneous color contrasts directly into clothing.
