Knowra Soong Ching-ling Soong Ching-ling Soong Ching-ling (1893–1981) was a Chinese political figure, wife of Sun Yat-sen, and a leading advocate of women’s and children’s welfare. She served as honorary president of the People’s Republic of China.
Sun Yat-sen : Chinese revolutionary and political leader who helped overthrow the Qing dynasty and became the provisional president of the Republic of China. Her husband and political partner, whose revolutionary legacy she defended after his death.
Soong family : A prominent Chinese family whose members became influential in business and politics during the twentieth century. Her family’s education, wealth, and political ties shaped her early opportunities.
China Welfare Institute : A Chinese social welfare organization founded by Soong Ching-ling in 1938 to support children and women. It became the principal institution through which she advanced welfare and educational programs.
Honorary President of the People’s Republic of China : An honorary state title held by Soong Ching-ling from 1981 until her death later that year. The title formalized her symbolic place in the state at the end of her life.
Soong Mei-ling : Chinese political figure and wife of Chiang Kai-shek, influential in the Republic of China and its international relations. Her younger sister took the opposing side in the Chinese Civil War.

Wesleyan College : A women’s college in Macon, Georgia, established in 1836 as one of the earliest degree-granting colleges for women. She studied in the United States at this college before returning to China.
