Sound film

A motion picture with synchronized recorded sound, including dialogue, music, or sound effects. Its soundtrack is coordinated with the images during recording, editing, or playback.

Sound-on-film: A system that records an optical or magnetic soundtrack directly on a motion-picture film strip. It keeps the soundtrack physically aligned with the image frames.
Silent film: A motion picture presented without synchronized recorded dialogue or sound effects. Sound film developed from exhibition practices built around silent images and live accompaniment.
