South Caucasus

The South Caucasus is the region between the Black Sea and Caspian Sea comprising Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. Its location between Europe, Asia, Russia, Turkey, and Iran has shaped its diverse histories and strategic importance.

Armenia: A landlocked country in the South Caucasus, with Yerevan as its capital. Its highland terrain and distinct history form one part of the region.
Kingdom of Armenia: An ancient kingdom centered on the Armenian Highlands, prominent in several periods of antiquity. Its legacy shaped Armenian political and religious traditions in the region.

Nagorno-Karabakh war: The 1988–1994 armed conflict between Armenians and Azerbaijanis over Nagorno-Karabakh and surrounding areas. Its outcome entrenched displacement and unresolved territorial claims after the Soviet collapse.
