South Korean democratization

South Korean democratization was the movement and political transition that ended military-backed authoritarian rule and established electoral democracy, especially through the 1987 June Democratic Uprising and constitutional reform.

First Republic of South Korea: South Korea’s first constitutional government, established in 1948 under President Syngman Rhee and ended by the April Revolution in 1960. Its authoritarian turn and collapse established an early precedent for mass resistance to presidential rule.
