South Manchuria Railway

The South Manchuria Railway was a Japanese-controlled railway company that operated in northeastern China from 1906 until 1945. It also developed mines, ports, research institutes, and settlements under Japanese imperial rule.

Russo-Japanese War: A war fought between the Russian and Japanese empires from 1904 to 1905, chiefly over influence in Korea and Manchuria. Japan’s victory enabled it to take over Russia’s railway interests in southern Manchuria.
