Soviet Central Asia comprised the Central Asian territories governed by the Soviet Union, chiefly the Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen, and Uzbek Soviet republics. Soviet rule reshaped their borders, economies, societies, and political institutions.
