Propaganda in the Soviet Union

State-directed communication used by Soviet institutions to promote Communist ideology, legitimize government policies, and shape public opinion.

Agitprop: Political agitation and propaganda organized to mobilize support for a political cause or state. The Soviet system used agitprop to combine ideological explanation with calls for political action.
Russian Revolution: The revolutionary upheavals of 1917 that ended imperial rule and brought the Bolsheviks to power. The Bolsheviks developed mass political communication amid the struggle to secure their new government.
Collectivization in the Soviet Union: The forced consolidation of Soviet peasant farms into collective and state farms, especially under Stalin. Campaign messaging defended collectivization and framed resistance as hostility to socialism.
