Speech repetition is the process of reproducing spoken language after hearing it. It links auditory perception and memory to the motor planning and production of speech.

Auditory perception: Auditory perception is the brain’s interpretation of sound, including speech sounds and their patterns. It converts the incoming utterance into speech information that can guide reproduction.
Phoneme: A phoneme is a sound category that can distinguish words in a language. Accurate repetition requires preserving the contrastive sound units in the utterance.

Speech imitation: Speech imitation is the reproduction of another speaker’s speech, potentially including accent, voice quality, or manner. It overlaps with repetition but can include copying features beyond the words and sounds.
Echolalia: Echolalia is the repetition of words or phrases spoken by another person, often with little or no alteration. It is a conspicuous form of repeated speech that may occur in several clinical contexts.
