Knowra Spirituality Spirituality Spirituality is personal or communal engagement with transcendent meaning or inner life, with or without organized religion. It can involve beliefs, practices, relationships, or experiences.
Meaning of life : The question of what makes human existence significant, purposeful, or worth living. Spiritual traditions often frame purpose through relationships with the sacred, the world, or other people.
Religion : A system of beliefs, practices, institutions, and traditions concerning sacred or ultimate realities. Spirituality can overlap with religion but need not depend on its institutions or doctrines.
Meditation : A family of practices that train attention, awareness, or mental stability. Meditation is used in spiritual traditions and secular settings to cultivate inner awareness.
Secularism : A principle or social arrangement separating religious authority from civic institutions or public affairs. Secular settings can support spirituality while limiting religion's institutional authority.
Transcendence : The experience or idea of going beyond ordinary limits of self, perception, or existence. Spirituality often centers on realities or experiences understood as exceeding everyday life.
Religious experience : A subjective experience interpreted as an encounter with divine, sacred, or ultimate reality. It is one recognizable form of spirituality, though spirituality also includes nonreligious experience.
Prayer : A practice of addressing, listening to, or contemplating a deity or sacred reality. Prayer gives many forms of spirituality a personal or communal mode of relation.
Atheism : The absence of belief in gods, or the belief that no gods exist. Atheism rules out some theistic interpretations of spirituality but does not determine a person's inner life.
Sacred : Something regarded as holy, set apart, or deserving reverence. The sacred gives spiritual commitments and practices a focus beyond ordinary utility.
Contemplation : Sustained reflective attention directed toward an idea, object, or ultimate concern. Contemplation is a practice through which people explore inner life and spiritual questions.
