Springtail

A springtail is a tiny, wingless hexapod in the class Collembola. Most species use a forked abdominal appendage called the furcula to leap away from surfaces.

Furcula: A forked abdominal appendage that springtails hold folded beneath the body and release to jump. This spring-loaded appendage supplies the force behind the characteristic leap.
Collembola: A class of small, wingless hexapods that includes all springtails. Springtail is the common name for members of this taxonomic group.
