sRGB

sRGB is a standardized RGB color space and encoding that defines how red, green, and blue values correspond to displayed colors. It is widely used for digital images, displays, and web content.

sRGB transfer function: The piecewise nonlinear function that maps sRGB color values to and from linear-light intensity. It makes sRGB values compact to store while preserving useful precision in darker tones.
ICC profile: A data file describing a device or color space for color-managed conversions. The standard sRGB ICC profile lets software identify and convert sRGB-tagged images.
Display P3: A wide-gamut RGB color space used by many modern displays and digital workflows. Display P3 represents more saturated colors than sRGB, especially in reds and greens.
International Electrotechnical Commission: An international standards organization that develops technical standards for electrical and electronic technologies. The IEC published the specification that formally standardizes sRGB.
RGB color model: A color model that represents colors as combinations of red, green, and blue components. sRGB uses this additive model to encode each color with three component values.
Web colors: Color values used in web documents, commonly expressed with CSS color syntax. CSS color values are commonly interpreted in the sRGB color space unless another space is specified.
Adobe RGB color space: An RGB color space with a wider gamut than sRGB, designed to encompass more print-related colors. Adobe RGB covers more cyan-green colors but is less universal for web images.
Hewlett-Packard: An American technology company that developed computers, printers, and related technologies. Hewlett-Packard co-developed the sRGB proposal with Microsoft.
CIE 1931 color space: A system for specifying colors using standardized tristimulus values and chromaticity coordinates. Its chromaticity framework underlies the coordinates used to define sRGB primaries and white.
JPEG: A family of image compression standards commonly used for photographic images. JPEG photographs are often encoded or tagged as sRGB for broad compatibility.
