Stanislao Cannizzaro

Stanislao Cannizzaro (1826–1910) was an Italian chemist who used Avogadro’s hypothesis to clarify the distinction between atomic and molecular weights and systematize atomic weights.

Karlsruhe Congress: The 1860 international meeting of chemists in Karlsruhe, Germany, that debated atoms, molecules, and chemical notation. Cannizzaro’s paper circulated there and helped resolve disagreements over atomic and molecular weights.
Avogadro's law: Equal volumes of gases at the same temperature and pressure contain equal numbers of molecules. This relation lets molecular masses be compared through gas densities.
