Given circumstances : The factual conditions of a play, including its setting, events, relationships, and characters’ histories. Actors use these facts to ground imaginative choices in the play’s world.
Theatrical realism : A mode of theatre that presents recognizable behavior and social worlds with an appearance of everyday plausibility. Stanislavski’s training developed alongside realist drama and its demand for credible behavior.
Konstantin Stanislavski : A Russian actor, director, and teacher who co-founded the Moscow Art Theatre and developed a system of actor training. His teaching and successive revisions formed the system’s core.
