Stanisław Ulam

Stanisław Ulam was a Polish-American mathematician whose work ranged from set theory and topology to nuclear weapons and computational methods, including the Monte Carlo method.

John von Neumann: A Hungarian-American mathematician who made foundational contributions to computing, game theory, and nuclear weapons design. Ulam collaborated with von Neumann on the Monte Carlo method and thermonuclear weapon design.
Monte Carlo method: A computational technique that estimates quantities by sampling random outcomes repeatedly. Ulam conceived its use for neutron-diffusion problems where direct calculation was impractical.
