The Ministry for State Security of the German Democratic Republic, responsible for domestic surveillance, political repression, and foreign intelligence from 1950 until German reunification in 1990.

Inoffizielle Mitarbeiter: Unofficial collaborators who secretly supplied information to the Stasi, often under code names. They formed the human network that enabled surveillance inside workplaces, families, and social groups.
