Steppe empire

A large political formation rooted in the grasslands of Eurasia, often built through mobile pastoralism, military alliances, and control of trade routes.

Pastoral nomadism: A subsistence system based on moving herds seasonally across grazing lands. Mobile herding supplied the horses, food, and social organization behind many steppe armies.
Xiongnu: A confederation of pastoral peoples that dominated parts of the eastern Eurasian steppe from the third century BCE. Its rivalry with Han China shaped an early model of steppe power.
Eurasian Steppe: A vast belt of grasslands extending across Eurasia from eastern Europe to northeast Asia. Its open grasslands connected distant pastoral communities and enabled rapid movement.
