Straits Settlements

The Straits Settlements was a British colonial territory in Southeast Asia, comprising Singapore, Penang, Malacca, and later other territories, from 1826 until its dissolution in 1946.

Anglo-Dutch Treaty of 1824: A treaty that divided British and Dutch spheres of influence in Southeast Asia in 1824. Its boundary-making cleared the way for Britain to consolidate Penang, Malacca, and Singapore.
Governor of the Straits Settlements: The chief executive appointed to administer the Straits Settlements under British authority. The governor coordinated policies across the territory’s geographically separated settlements.
