Strasserism

Strasserism is a current of German fascism associated with Gregor and Otto Strasser. It paired nationalism and racial politics with anti-capitalist rhetoric and calls for revolutionary change.

Gregor Strasser: Gregor Strasser was a German Nazi politician who led the party’s northern organization before being killed during the Night of the Long Knives. His organizational power and break with Hitler helped establish the current’s political lineage.
Fascism: Fascism is an ultranationalist, authoritarian political ideology that seeks national unity under a powerful leader and rejects liberal democracy. Strasserism belongs to fascism despite its attacks on finance and private economic power.
Hitlerism: Hitlerism is the political ideology and style of rule centered on Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. Strasserist factions challenged Hitler’s priorities but remained within the broader fascist and racial-nationalist camp.
Neo-Nazism: Neo-Nazism is a postwar movement that revives or adapts Nazi ideology, symbolism, and political goals. Some postwar groups adopted Strasserist language as a way to present Nazi politics as anti-capitalist.
Otto Strasser: Otto Strasser was a German nationalist and Nazi dissident who left the party in 1930 and developed a revolutionary nationalist program. His writings and exile advocacy became central to later definitions of Strasserism.
Nationalism: Nationalism is a political principle that gives priority to a nation’s identity, interests, and self-government. The Strasserist promise of economic upheaval remained framed as national renewal.
Nazism: Nazism was the racist, antisemitic, expansionist ideology of the Nazi Party and the dictatorship it established in Germany. Strasserism was a dissident current within Nazism, not a separate democratic or egalitarian alternative.
Third Position: Third Position is a family of far-right ideologies that reject both liberal capitalism and Marxist communism while promoting nationalist alternatives. Its anti-capitalist nationalist framing overlaps with themes associated with Strasserism.
National Socialist German Workers' Party: The Nazi Party was Germany’s far-right political movement that ruled as a dictatorship from 1933 to 1945. Strasserism emerged within the party before becoming an oppositional current.
Racism: Racism is the belief that human populations form distinct groups with unequal traits or worth, often used to justify discrimination. Strasserist anti-capitalist rhetoric did not displace its racial politics.
