Straw hat

A hat woven from straw or similar plant fibers. It provides shade and also serves as a fashion accessory or formal and ceremonial dress.

Straw: The dry stalks left after cereal grains such as wheat or rice are harvested. These stalks supply the traditional raw material for woven hats.
Sun hat: A hat designed primarily to shade the face, head, and neck from sunlight. The wide brims of many straw hats make them effective sunwear.
Ecuadorian hat weaving: The handcraft tradition of weaving hats from toquilla palm fibers in Ecuador. Its communities developed the techniques behind fine Panama hats.

Baseball cap: A soft cap with a rounded crown and a projecting front visor. Its short visor shades less of the head and neck than a wide straw brim.
Toquilla straw: The fine, flexible fibers of Carludovica palmata, used to make Panama hats. This fiber produces the fine, tightly woven hats associated with Ecuador.
Boater hat: A stiff, flat-crowned hat with a narrow brim, traditionally made of straw. Its structured straw form became associated with summer and formal occasions.
