Strontium

Strontium is a soft, silvery alkaline-earth metal with atomic number 38. It occurs naturally mainly in the minerals celestine and strontianite.

Strontium chloride: An inorganic salt composed of strontium and chloride ions. It illustrates how strontium forms soluble ionic compounds with halogens.
Strontium aluminate: A phosphorescent ceramic material that can store light and emit it slowly. Doped strontium aluminate is used in long-lasting glow-in-the-dark products.
Strontianite: A mineral composed primarily of strontium carbonate. This mineral gave strontium its name and was among the materials used to identify it.
Radiostrontium: Radioactive isotopes of strontium released by nuclear processes. Strontium-90 is the best-known radiostrontium contaminant from nuclear fallout.

Nuclear fallout: Radioactive particles and gases deposited after a nuclear explosion or accident. Fallout can spread strontium-90 into soil, water, and food chains.
Strontium isotopes: Variants of strontium atoms that differ in neutron number. Their distinct masses and radioactive behavior shape strontium’s geochemical and nuclear roles.
Strontium carbonate: A white, sparingly soluble compound of strontium and carbonate. It is a common feedstock for strontium chemicals and red pyrotechnic colorants.
