Stuart Roosa

Stuart Roosa was an American astronaut and former smokejumper who piloted the command module Kitty Hawk during Apollo 14 in 1971.

Alan Shepard: Alan Shepard was an American astronaut who commanded Apollo 14 and became the fifth person to walk on the Moon. Shepard commanded the mission while Roosa remained in lunar orbit aboard Kitty Hawk.
Apollo 14: Apollo 14 was NASA’s third crewed lunar landing mission, launched in January 1971. Roosa’s only spaceflight was this mission, which he piloted from lunar orbit.
Apollo command and service module: The Apollo command and service module was the spacecraft that supported crew travel to and from lunar orbit. Roosa piloted its command-module component, which also served as the crew’s Earth-return vehicle.
Moon Trees: Moon Trees are trees grown from seeds carried around the Moon by Apollo 14 astronaut Stuart Roosa. Roosa brought hundreds of tree seeds into lunar orbit, and many were later planted on Earth.
Edgar Mitchell: Edgar Mitchell was an American astronaut who piloted Apollo 14’s lunar module and walked on the Moon with Alan Shepard. Mitchell and Shepard descended to the lunar surface while Roosa operated the command module.

United States Forest Service: The United States Forest Service is a federal agency that manages national forests and grasslands and supports wildfire research. Roosa’s former agency supplied seeds for his Apollo 14 experiment.
Deke Slayton: Deke Slayton was an American astronaut and NASA flight-crew director who helped select and assign astronauts to missions. As flight-crew director, Slayton assigned Roosa to Apollo 14.
Antares (lunar module): Antares was the Apollo 14 lunar module that carried Alan Shepard and Edgar Mitchell to the Moon’s surface. Roosa stayed in Kitty Hawk as Antares carried his crewmates down to the Moon.
