Sudanese civil war (2023–present)

An armed conflict that began in April 2023 between Sudan’s Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces, spreading across the country and causing mass displacement and civilian suffering.

Sudanese Armed Forces: Sudan’s national military, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan during the 2023 war. Its contest for state authority with the Rapid Support Forces is the war’s central military struggle.
Sudanese Revolution: The 2018–2019 uprising that ended Omar al-Bashir’s rule in Sudan. Its overthrow of Bashir opened the transition that later collapsed into war.
Abdel Fattah al-Burhan: A Sudanese army general and head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council after the 2021 coup. He commands the Sudanese Armed Forces in its fight against the Rapid Support Forces.
