Śuddhodana

Śuddhodana is the father of Gautama Buddha and a ruler of the Shakya clan in Buddhist tradition. Accounts portray him as a local ruler, though later traditions differ in how they describe his position and kingdom.

Gautama Buddha: Gautama Buddha was a spiritual teacher whose teachings founded Buddhism. Śuddhodana is identified in Buddhist tradition as Gautama’s father.
Pāli Canon: The Pāli Canon is the principal collection of scriptures preserved by the Theravāda Buddhist tradition. Its accounts of Gautama’s life provide an early textual setting for Śuddhodana.
