Svealand

Svealand is the central of Sweden’s three traditional lands, comprising provinces around Lake Mälaren and extending northward. It is a historical and cultural region, not an administrative unit.

Uppland: A historical province in east-central Sweden, north of Lake Mälaren and including much of present-day Uppsala County. Uppland forms Svealand’s northeastern part and borders the Mälaren region.
Svear: A people of early medieval Sweden associated especially with the region around Uppsala and Lake Mälaren. The land’s name and early political identity are linked to the Svear.
Lands of Sweden: The three traditional regions of Sweden: Götaland, Svealand, and Norrland. Svealand is one of the three large historical divisions grouped under this name.
