Symphonie fantastique

A five-movement programmatic symphony by Hector Berlioz, composed in 1830, that depicts an artist’s opium-fueled visions of unrequited love through a recurring idée fixe.

Idée fixe: A recurring musical theme associated with a character, idea, or object and transformed as the work unfolds. Berlioz makes this melody the beloved’s musical image, reshaping it across the symphony.
